I became a psychotherapist because I am passionate about helping people live their best lives. With over 38 years of clinical experience, I focus on evidence-based psychotherapy to address a range of issues, including relational problems therapy and custody disputes. Therapy must help individuals not only with their personal and relational challenges but also assist them in coping with the daily social, cultural, economic, and political stresses. Coping serves as a starting point for moving forward in developing and achieving personal goals, as there are future chapters still to be lived. Psychological therapy should adopt a comprehensive approach, acknowledging the pervasive pressures of daily life while empowering individuals to engage in personal growth therapy. While developing effective coping mechanisms is crucial in managing external stressors, it should not be viewed as the ultimate goal. Instead, the ability to cope effectively lays the foundation upon which individuals can build momentum towards personal growth and the realization of their aspirations. Recognizing that life unfolds in a series of ongoing experiences, therapy should encourage individuals to move beyond mere adaptation and actively shape future chapters defined by their values and objectives. This involves fostering resilience, cultivating self-efficacy, and developing proactive strategies for achieving meaningful and lasting personal fulfillment within the broader context of their lives.
